A 30-Minute Online Presence Review: Four Practical Checklists
Use 30 minutes for an initial review, then allow more time for any fixes. This is a DIY checklist across four areas, separate from the free automated AI Visibility Score.
For each item, write "checked", "needs attention", or "not applicable", with a link or note supporting the finding.
Website: 8 Minutes
- Read the homepage as a new visitor. Can you identify the service, audience, and location or area served?
- Open it on a phone. Check text size, navigation, and buttons.
- Follow the contact or booking route through to the point before submission. Record broken links or unclear instructions.
- Review the main service page. Does it explain what is included and the next step?
- Note slow pages for a separate performance investigation. Avoid diagnosing a problem from one load on one connection.
Google Business Profile: 7 Minutes
First check whether your business is eligible. Online-only businesses are not eligible simply by adding service areas. Those areas are for businesses that visit or deliver to customers in person, and they do not guarantee rankings. See Google's representation guidelines.
For an eligible profile, check:
- Actual business name, contact details, hours, and accurate available categories.
- A useful description within 750 characters, including spaces, with no URLs.
- Clear, current photos that accurately represent the business.
- Outdated announcements. If your last post was more than six weeks ago, consider whether an update would be useful to customers.
- Review responses that address feedback without exposing private information.
There is no minimum photo or review count in this checklist that proves legitimacy or predicts ranking.
LinkedIn: 8 Minutes
View your public profile where possible, or ask someone to read it as a prospective customer.
Check whether the headline names your service and audience, the About section explains your process, and the contact route works. Review any featured material for accuracy and permissions. If you have no client results, a useful guide or labelled sample can explain how you work.
Check recent posts for relevance to your audience. Posting frequency alone does not tell you whether the profile produces useful inquiries.
AI Responses: 7 Minutes
Try relevant service and location questions in the tools you can access. Illustrative queries include "Employment lawyers in Toronto" and "Bookkeepers for retailers in Sydney."
Record the exact question, tool, date, answer, and cited sources. Note whether you appear in this particular response and whether your details are correct. Repeat relevant queries across tools and dates before drawing broader conclusions.
If another business appears, inspect the source pages for useful ideas. Do not assume you know why the model selected it.
Prioritise the Findings
Four sections reviewed: record which checks pass in each section and prioritise gaps. Start with incorrect contact information, broken contact routes, and unclear service descriptions. This checklist does not establish whether you are visible everywhere online or predict inquiry volume.
For an automated website check, the free AI Visibility Score runs over 100 automated checks of website access, readable content, and business details. Results appear on the page, usually under a minute, and the score and top fixes are emailed to you. It does not score Google Business Profile, social accounts, or content.
